From the high-strength steel safety cage and 10 standard air bags† to the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control and the peace of mind of OnStar®, Cruze has achieved high vehicle safety ratings and accolades. Learn more about these important features and discover what drives us to make the safest vehicles possible.

The Cruze has redefined the compact car. From fuel efficiency and features to styling and technology, Cruze is all about offering “more.” There’s nothing more important than safety.

It’s no wonder Cruze has received high vehicle safety ratings and accolades, including being named a 2012 Top Safety Pick† by the IIHS and receiving a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).†

Here are just some of the safety features that are providing Cruze drivers and passengers with even more prevention and protection:

10 Standard Air Bags

The days of being impressed with a passenger air bag are long gone. Cruze has set the bar even higher with 10 standard air bags† — no other car in its class4 offers more.

These include frontal and knee air bags† for driver and front seat passenger and side-impact seat-mounted air bags† for the driver, front passenger and outboard rear seat passengers. The front passenger air bag includes a Passenger Sensing System that automatically switches the right-front passenger frontal air bag on or off based on the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat.

Also included are roof rail head-curtain air bags. In a collision with sufficient side-impact force, an inflatable curtain deploys inside the vehicle on the side that has been struck. The curtain module is in the roof rail above the side windows.
High-Strength Protection

Cruze wasn’t built just for style and efficiency, it was also built to help keep you safe in the event of a collision with a high-strength steel safety cage and roof crush resistance that outperforms federal requirements.

StabiliTrak®

No matter which Cruze model you choose, it will include the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control. It assists the driver in maintaining vehicle control in sudden maneuvers, particularly in low-traction conditions, like emergency lane changes and avoidance maneuvers.

On slippery surfaces, StabiliTrak helps you stay the course by detecting the difference between the path being steered and the direction the vehicle is actually traveling. It then uses the brakes and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help you keep your Cruze on track.

OnStar Automatic Crash Response†

Cruze comes with the peace of mind of OnStar® and 6 months of the Directions & Connections®† Plan. The service includes Automatic Crash Response that helps reduce the response time of emergency medical attention in the event of an accident. In a crash, built-in sensors automatically alert an OnStar Advisor who is immediately connected to the vehicle to check if you need help or if emergency services need to be provided.
